About the office/school

Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health (Majarlin) is a Commonwealth-funded University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) based on the University’s Broome campus. Majarlin is one of four components that forms the University’s RHMT program which sits within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences. Majarlin’s aim is to contribute to the development of a capable and culturally responsive Kimberley health workforce through inspiration, education, innovation, and research. To achieve this, Majarlin facilitates the delivery of high-quality Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health clinical placements, education, and professional support and engages in collaborative research to progress the rural health evidence base. 
 
About the role

The Senior Administrative Officer provides a wide variety of high-level administrative and operational support to ensure the effective functioning of Majarlin office in the areas of teaching, learning and research. Reporting to the Administration Coordinator and working closely with the Centre’s administration team, the Senior Administration Officer serves as a key liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and efficient workflow. By leveraging advanced administrative skills and expertise, this position aims to enhance the overall productivity and success of Majarlin, while upholding high standards of service and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-level administrative support for the Centre's strategic and operational goals.
  • Manage meeting coordination, including documentation, correspondence, presentations, and reports.
  • Handle financial tasks such as maintaining records, processing payments, and monitoring budget expenditure.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students and stakeholders, addressing queries and liaising with other departments.
  • Supervise administrative staff, manage team workflow, and offer training on university systems.
  • Ensure accurate task completion, data management, and adherence to policies while contributing effectively to team goals.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Relevant degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field
  • Advanced diploma with at least 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Diploma with at least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Certificate IV with extensive relevant work experience
  • Post-trades certificate with over 2 years of relevant technician experience
  • Equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Previous significant administrative experience
  • Experience in a university or tertiary environment is highly desirable.
  • Current resident of Broome is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work under general direction and provide supervisory support within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and aptitude for learning new software programs.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with strong relationship-building abilities.
  • Discretion in handling responsibilities, including effective policy and procedure application.
  • Effective time management and workload organization skills.
  • Capability to collaborate across multifunctional teams and deliver high-quality, responsive service.
  • Sensitivity and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information.
